Be careful.
I got hosed be a dealer. Told me they would give me $3000 for a vehicle they never even looked at. Yep they did but they also rose the sell for price by $3000 so ireally got nothign and got totally hosed in the deal and gave away a perfectly running F150 with 289 (I think??? The detuned 302) V8. I was slightly miffed but I signed the papers before I figured out what had really happened. Just another reason I'm in over my eyeballs in debt.....
Just watch the numbers carefully. Ask them briefly about trade in than after the deal is done tell them your gonna throw the car in for trade. I did that once and got the price I was looking for.

Dealers+Ranger FX4 Level II
I agree that any dealer giving $2000 on any trade has to make it up on the other end they are not the stupid. As for the Ranger I just got one three weeks ago with every option except the 300 watt stereo or however it is but did get the 6 disk cd player. The Level II are much more sweeter!! and are worth it!

any ideas?
We have a lot of those kinds of dealers here where I live. But the bottom line is those kinds of dealers can not be trusted.

I need to add somthing.
I got the line from the dealership that gave me the $3000 tradin that the loan companies like to see trade ins. Ya, I beleve thats a bunch of BS now. The loan company just wants to make sure you aren't taking a loan out for tons more than the car is worth. Like they don't want to loan you $20,000 for a $8,000 valued car.
I've gotten to the point where I don't beleve a word a "used" car salesman sais, even if there talking about somthing totaly un-car related (no offence to any car salesmen reading this, i've just been burnt too many times). I'll listen and take note of what a "new" car salesman said but I will still take the info with a grane of salt.

Yep, they just shuffle the money around, doesn't really save you anything.
When my mother bought her last car (a Subaru), she first looked at a used one, and $1500 was offered for her Explorer. She decided to buy a new one instead, and we negotiated it down to invoice. After that, they only gave us $950 for the Explorer. (Considering that I "forgot" to mention that it had a failing trans, I didn't argue much...)
