does anyone know if manufactures put date codes on tires, (i would think so) and is there a std for de-coding it? Would it be the no. & letters after DOT? thanks...paul

The last 4 #'s. The first 2 are the week and the last 2 are the year. i.e (0298) means that tire was produced the second week of 1998.Though some manufacturers will use a 6 digit code,(021998).

Check on the other side of the tire, there are DOT #s on both sides. The date code is at the end of the serial no.If it's a "white" wall/letter tire it would be on the "blackwall" side. The DOT/serial #s are more of a "raised" letter/no.,where as the date will look more like it's stamped into the tire.
