high flotation vs. standard tires

Would someone please explain the difference between high flotation (31x10.5x17) tires and standard (275/70/17) tires?

I'm looking at some Mickey Thompson 31x10.5x17's for my stock rims on my '03 F150 King Ranch, and I want to make sure they will fit, and also find out what the pro's and con's are of going with that type of tire vs. a standard measurement tire.
