Door Sensor Problem

I have a 2002 F-250 Heavy Duty 4x4 four door powerstroke diesel. Last week I noticed my door ajar light stays on even when I have made sure all doors are shut. This sensor affects my automatic light sensor and my keychain remote is disabled at this time. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to fix the problem.

If your door switches were sticking, your fobs should still work so I'm thinking VSM. Take a look at this thread.

I took a look at the thread and I have many of the same things wrong with mine. Is it hard to change out the VSM or do most take it to the dealer to fix?

You can change it out yourself but it will have to go into the dealer to get the old one scanned with it still connected. They will then flash the new one with the scanned code. I saved a few bucks in labor and put the new one in and left the old one on the trans hump still connected. You have to remove the lower portion of the center dash to gain access.

Or it could be a bad instrument cluster as in my case.

Hey guzzle, its alittle tricky but I got to mine with out taking the panel off. Probably because I could'nt figure out how!!! But with a little patience and determination I got the 10mm deep-well socket in there.$140 for the VSM and $145 for flashing(which I thought was excessive). Thank the Diesel Gods I did the labor myself, they really would have raped me!!!

Hmm, have you tried spraying down the latches with WD-40?

I think guzzle92 might have already discounted this, but heck, it's worth a try!

Lots of users have reported door ajar warnings, interior lights staying on, etc, and the problem is a dirty door latch. Spray 'er down and see if that works?

Sounds like what happened to me...

I wish my fix was as easy as a door latch problem.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I took my truck in to the dealer and the problem was my Vehicle Security Module (VSM). Thanks for the help.
