I have a 1998 f150 4x4 and the sensor keeps saying the door is ajar. Of course the courtesy lights and the bed light stays on. How can I unhook the sensor or where is it to replace. My battery is good but only for so long!!
its probably in the door latch. look at the wires that go into the door between the hinges. if you dont see any switch there, they are in the door latch. take the door pael off.
Use brake cleaner or carb cleaner on the latch, spray it into the hole in the door and then spray some WD40 or an equivilent lubricant in the hole to lube up the latch. Then (sounds funny) but slam the door several times, that should take care of the problem. Drivers side is most often the culprit.
I had a 99 f150 extended cab with the four doors and I had the same issue and if memory serves me correct the sensor/relay (or whatever it is) is in the door and I believe is part of the light in the door. As long as the door is closing properly I would check with your local dealer and just buy the sensor or relay or what ever the part is.

I had the same problem but only in the summer with dirt and dust. Thinking it was an electrical thing in the latch, i sprayed contact cleaner and it got rid of the grime in their. That also works if it comes back try that way as well.
