Question power mirror replacement parts?

I have a '99 f-150 with the power/ contour mirrors. Inside the mirror the two plastic (nylon?) screws that move the mirror are snapped off. Is it possible to buy just these or am I going to have to buy a whole mirror assy? I am not impressed with the non-oem replacements on e-bay. Thanks, John

If you are talking about the white pieces that move the mirror then yes you have to replace the entire assembly, at least that is what Ford told my dad for his '02. It was $160 for the mirror and you can install it yourself. I did his in less than an hour. And that was with a trip to sears because I lost one of the nuts.

New and used mirrors are available at www.RockAuto.com

RockAuto.com carries new and recycled manual, power, and power with turn signal indicator mirrors. Find the mirrors at www.RockAuto.com under "Body-Exterior".

The turn-signal mirrors are expensive, but a regular power mirror for your truck is about $45. RockAuto.com also carries mirror parts like glass and covers.

What's the procedure for replacing the mirror? I have to replace the passenger side mirror assembly after my daughter side-swiped a mail box. It looks like you have to remove the door panel to gain access, but just want to verify before I get started.

Thumbs up

I didn't want to buy the whole assembly either. all I needed was the mirror. So I went to the hardware store and bought a stock of aluminum, put it in my drill and to use it as a laythe. Then I took my Dremmel and carved two of them out. I only needed one, but these will never break. I dont understand why these parts are not available when you buy the mirror....

wwilkerson, Sorry, I did not have to remove my mirror assembly, all work was done on just the mirror ( backing plate?) ( plate that holds the mirror) good luck, John

Yes, you have to remove the door panels. If I remember there are three nuts that you have to remove, and then unclip the wiring harness and the mirror should pop off. A piece of advice someone told me was not to unclip the harness until you are holding onto the mirror too. You don't want it to fall and hit the door.
