c6 torque converter

does anyone know if there is a difference in length for c6 torque converters. I have an 83 bronco and had to cut the old torque converter out so I could replace the rear engine seal (burr was stripped from when they rebuilt the engine). Went down the the wrecking yard, and they pulled an 85 c6 converter off (don't know if it was a car or truck) but when I put it in mine, if I tighten the tranny to engine bolts, the engine locks up tight. Loosen em up about a 1/4" and it turns over fine. The torque to flywheel bolts are clearing everything just fine, so as near as I can figger the torque converter is a bit longer. Any info on this would be appreciated before I tear it all down again. Thanks.

I think that there are two different size crank pilots, something like 1.375" and 1.8something", I know that the larger is for FE's and the smaller for the rest, not sure if this is length or width. However, when replacing mine(C-6 behind a 460), it went on and seemed seated, but, turned it a little and got it to go just a bit farther into the tranny-might this be your problem? There are two sets of splines on the inside of the convertor, I don't think I seated on the inner set until I "nudged" it.
