Jesse James (Monster Garage) - Genius or hack?
>That new show is pretty strange. I would rather watch
>re-runs of Gilligan's Island. The stuff they made from
>Bamboo and grass was better than JesseJames stuff.
Yeah, but did it ever get them OFF THAT ISLAND?!?! NOOOOOOOO, it didn't!! Guess the Professor wasn't all that smart, was he? And how did Mrs. Howell know to take 85 different outfits with her on a "3-hour tour?" These are the deep questions that keep me awake at night...

I like some of the stuff they have done, and some of the humor is pretty good, especially on the "nut shaker" truck. But who puts those rims on an F-150? I mean, come on! I think the only reason that Jesse James is on that show is because of his helping DSC on the history of the Harley, and with the v-rod.
Personally, I like Junkyard Wars much more. I think we should get together with an FTE team. There's two, or maybe three members in CT ready to go!

Jesse James (Monster Garage) - Genius or hack?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jan-03 AT 10:58 PM (EST)]I agree that the attitude stuff could be knocked out. I enjoy the show just from the standpoint of seeing people who have never worked together meeting a tight schedule with unknown challenges. I guess you have to put WWF into everything. WWF is fine for WWF, I just grow weary of getting it in everything else.
Back to the subject, he is very talented. You can tell that all he thinks, breathes, and loves is creating cool stuff from metal. Which is fine for the time you need that. The rest of the time he's just a jerk because he is not doing what he wants to be doing.
I felt sorry for his wife and son and could see why she left him. I almost wonder when he had time to sleep with her.

Jesse is talented! His tastes are too west coast for me when it comes to cars but his bikes are just too cool. He's true to the old style choppers but adds his flavor with a touch of new technology.
Any one of use would be glad to have the ability to concieve an idea and realize it imortalized in metal. Give the guy a break, he's worked hard to get where he's at today. And that's not easy in todays CNC machine made, cookie cutter bike world.
As a side note, Discovery's features on his metal working ablilities is what inspired me to tackle those cowl patches I made for my truck. My favorite thought while I was hammering the panels was jesses voice:
"it's like beating it into submission..." (or something like that)

I think they could get more in-depth into showing us the processes. It seems like they are going more for "entertainment value" with all the fluff, when the project itself the the most entertaining element. I have yet to watch one that I didn't enjoy. My favorite was the Limousine Pumper Fire Truck.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jan-03 AT 11:48 AM (EST)]jesse james is a big a-hole..... along with his crew of 'i'm too cool for you' types.
sorry to burst your bubble, but his bikes are crap.... i'd ride a moped before getting on one of his RUB machines.
from what i have seen and heard.... you can dish out 80k plus for a bike that barely runs and will spend more time under the wrench (not under your ***).
as for him making old-school choppers..... HA!! the word chopper and what he builds are complete opposites of each other....
a chopper is a low budget, make it work, bare bones, type of bike....
for the most part... choppers haven't been built since the 70's when you'd see honda engines strapped to chopped kawasaki frames!

Im amazed at the things they do on that show.....this week took a nascar and turned into a street sweeper, what about the school bus into a pontoon boat, nut shaker was a good-one, ford explorer garbage truck, chevy traker into a hot air balloon (desert race against some big *** 4x4's),or the impala zamboni.... Takes knowledge, skill and imagination to turn these ideas into a working machine. Who cares about his bikes, look at his skills. I enjoy the show, just to see how they would fabricate something instead of spending the money to buy one.
Gotta love Junk Yard Wars as well. Anybody watching the FULL METAL CHALLENGE? Theres some imagination in there too!
