51 F-1 Spotlight Installation
Hi All,
I'm considering installation of a spotlight on my truck. I am still running 6V - 8V positive ground system. Does anyone have a source for a 51 Ford spotlight? Got any photos of an old one so I can know what the mounting bracket looks like?
Thanks a bunch
Reed

I have a Unity spot light on my '49 F-2 and plan to buy one for my panel if I ever get it finished. I bought mine used but, I am sure Unity still makes the 6V with the "Ford" caps. I also have a set of Unity fog lights on the front bumper that I bought new about six years from a Unity dealer at swap meet. You can check with some of the sponsors of this web site. Also, Kanter has them:

Bobj49F2 - spotlight
Hi Bob
Thanks for the info and great looking truck. Can you tell me about the installation of the spotlight in the cab? I have a little apprehension about drilling a hole in my truck. Also, I was trying to stay with OEM equipment and have found an old not perfect spotlight that appears to be the real deal. Its a Unity, but the light door is smooth with a red "Fomoco" in cursive on it. If I knew I could get the correct installation kit, I could get this light.
Thanks
Reed.
PS: Mine's a driver, but I'm going ACARA (As Correct As Reasonably Achievable).

Reed,
I think the instructions for the light mounting kit has the dimensions of the hole and the position in the pillar, it's been over six years since I installed mine and I don't remember exactly. I know what you mean about drilling the hole, I was nervous about doing it too. I measured twice and then a third time before proceding. The Unity light I have is a used one too, the mounting kit was new, specifically for the '48-52 Ford truck. The light I have is like the new ones, I think the new ones are pretty close, if not exact, as the ones used on our trucks back in the day. Off hand I don't remember if mine has cursive or block "Ford" on it. I am at work and my truck is at home.
I also built my truck as a driver, it's not perfect, but I tried to keep it as close to stock as possible. I have added a few dress up items like stainless widow visors and the stainless trim on the grill and around the window.

Man, I know this thread is REALLY old, but Bob - you mentioned that you had a used light, with a new mounting for the truck. Did you get the mounting from Unity? If not, where did you get it?
I just got an H-1, for $10.00, that I'm planning on putting on mine. doesn't have to be too period-correct for my F2, as you know, Bob, but would like the mount to be fairly accurate. Where'd ya get it??

I found a couple of brackets at a swap meet somewhere. There is a guy in Iowa that sells vintage Unity lights, I see him at the Wisconsin swap meets. He's a bit of a **** but he should have what you need.
Welcome to Accessory Land Parts website.
I would think you could contact a local Unity dealer to get the same parts unless they don't make them any more then I think you might have to go to the guy in Iowa. I plan on going to the Jefferson swap meet next weekend and I'll check with the guy to see if he has any. I need to get one for the F-4.

I'll have to see if the mount works for the truck (seems too steep an angle), and I'll try Unity. I'm sure there's something that would work, no matter what. this one does have the Ford logo, not sure if it's the box or script, yet...
I you find one for the F-4, and the guy happens to have a bunch, think of me....
Thanks again,

Hi rcaV8or and guys,
Wow I just put Spots on my 51 and it was simple. But there are a couple things you need to know.
Spotlights are available at UNITY in 6 volt and 12 volt. Also they come in a 5 (4 1/2) and a 6 inch variety
They are all basically the same except for the length of the shaft (which is actually three shafts running inside each other) and the mounting bracket. The picture of the light Roger showed is off a car as the #23 bracket is very sloped. For the 48 to 52 Ford F series, you need a #66 Bracket. You can find these spot lights at the car swap meets in pretty good shape for about $40 to $60 each. And Napa sells the bulbs for about $10. You can order a new light from Unity and also C& G Ford PArts sells them for $175 WITHOUT THE MOUNTING BRACKET WHICH IS ANOTHER $75. If you buy a new bracket, it comes with a template AND a drilling jig for the correct angle. It works perfect. I have the template for the 48-52 F-Series if anyone needs a copy, I'll e-mail a scan of it to you.
And, they work by contact internally not by wire. So all yo have to do to install it is loosen the bolt on the handle and pull off the handle. Then the shaft slided in the bracket, and th ehandle is reinstalled. Here are some pics! Mine are 6 Inch. I used to have a single 5 inch - I'm not sure which I like better. I have two of each...Easy to swap out.
In the close up photo's notice how flat the windshield edge of the mounting bracket is.
