Smile 360 to 410

Can you turn a 360 onto a 410? or are they 2 different motors? If it can what parts would i need to change it over? I have a 360 in a 69 f100 and I want to go play at the local drag strip, there is a 69 chevy truck there that runs a 350 and the guy who runs it is a real smart A--, I think my 360 will take him but i would like to embarass him. anybody got any suggestions.

a 360/390 with 390 rods and pistons plus a 428 crank will make a 410

and throw on a edelbrock rpm intake and holley 770 carb, set of headers, port your stock heads and you will have one mean truck, just remember the 428 cranks are very pricey, check out DSC motorsports. they should have everything you need

I might have been wrong, I think the pistons are shorter than the standard 390. Something like 1.66". I don't know what a standard 390 piston height is...

410 pistons are a bit shorter than 390 pistons, they used them to lower the compression ratio in truck motors.

the codes dont mean much, he does that cuz code A means he has them in stock and ready for shipment im sure the other ones you saw might have been 428CJ cranks that he may have to find which would be a different code.

i just finished a 410 i built out of my old 360. it was an extream improvement lookin back on that old 2V 360. one word i would like to put in is pitch those old 360 truck rods. i put some C7AE-B rods in mine. held up next to the 360 rods they are much better. also i could find the part number of my pistons i used. your basic 360 pistons will not work. mine came from gessford machine shop, and were special order kieth blacks. not a bad price either. this engine will also need to be externaly balanced. a 428 fly wheel had a balance weight on it. hope this helps, any questions just ask.

I messed up and put a 460 in place of a 390 in my truck. The good news is I hung on to my 390 and all the accessories to get it back in. I am going to do a rebuild before I put it in, and that 410 idea realy looks good. Mudracin74, what is your compression ratio with those Keith black pistons? What grade of gas do you run? and any and all other details that you care to share. The 460 is nice, but it just isn't quite what my 390 was. It also uses a bunch more gas.

the compression of my engine is 10:1, and it dosn't seem to like pump gas much. i ran premium in it once and it didnt run well. after that i put 110 in it. i would bet that if you found pistons that wouldn't be as high compression and a mild cam you could get away easy with pump gas. one thing about the 410 is it has alot of low end torque.

I wonder which pistons I could use to get somewhere between 8.5 and 9.5 to 1 compression ratio?

360 to 428

I have a 71 f100. Plan on converting to a 410, starting by swiping out the crank with a 428. If there a difference between a 428/428cj/428 super cj? I m new to trucks and I'm sure thats a stupid question but I'm trying to learn

Those engines are almost impossible to find. Google "survival motor sports" and check out stroker kits. More later.

I built a 410 and if I had to do it again I would go with a 445. By the time you get a set of pistons, have the crank ground, assembly balance, etc, another $500 will get you to a 445.
