I drove to the gym today, parked and everything was fine. When I came back, the truck started fine and I noticed that the speedometer was not working, also seemed to be shifting strange. I got home OK and parked it, will look at it tomorrow. Any suggestions what to check are appreciated.

Do a search on VSS. Sounds like that's the problem.

 

Yep, vehilce speed sensor. It's located on the top of the rear, about a 15 minute job.

 

Thanks for your help. I located the sensor and could feel only one bolt holding it on - is that correct? Also, does the attached wire pull off like a sparkplug wire, I gave it a little tug and it stayed put. Local Auto Zone does not stock the part, dealer has them at $35, will try to get up there this P.M.

Only one bolt, not sure on the electrical connector, maybe you'll be able to tell once the VSS is out.

By the way - the dealer parts guy says they sell a LOT of those, a high failure item.
