Turbo Lag

I have a lifted 03 F-250 6.0 Diesel. I have bad turbo lag. What is it? And how the hell do I get rid of it. I have recently installed the new K&N Filter Kit and have ordered the New Banks Exhaust. The two together might help. Can someone please tell me why or what courses Turbo Lag? Thank you.

Yes it is a Cat-Back. I have not installed it yet. I have had the Turbo Lag long before the K&N fit as well.

Bring it to the dealer. These trucks have very little lag. If the dealer tries to say it is normal get a test drive in another 6.0L for comparison. Don't let them blame your air filter. It is not the cause.
Not knowing if this is your first diesel (or turbo charged vehicle), remember all turbo's have some form of Lag. What I call "little lag" might seem terrible to some one not used to turbos. Having said that, these trucks get up and move when you give it full throttle with very little delay.

Cool thank you. Yes this is my first diesel. Here is a instance that scared me when I'm driving. Say i need to merge into traffic. I see a opening. I punch it. The truck starts to roll and about 2 to 3 Sec. latter the turbo kicks in. Now hell yes when the turbo kick in, it like a jet taking off, but that 2 to 3 Sec. is scary. I hope that gives you a pic. of what is happening to me. Is that the Little Lag you refer to?

That's the perfect description of tubo lag...
mine had it too...
but it stopped right after I got the diablo predator !!!
If it does lag now, the rush after it must make me forget it !!!
I recomend it for the 6-oh !

just trying to help

but really, I've had three other turbocharged vehicles and have blown turbo hoses off before... without the turbo these things are DOGS.... and the turbo can't anticipate when you want to go so it can't pre-build boost unless you power brake and give it gas...er , ahh fuel

even with the predator if I try to fitt the big x into too little a hole in traffic I will do a slight power brake to build the boost a bit...

I had a 2-3 second turbo lag on my 6.0 l and took it to the dealer. The first time they replaced the EGR sensor the second time they changed the whole valve. This helped for about a month and then it started to have bad lag again. The dealer replaced the EGR valve again. I've put about 10000 miles since the last EGR valve so hopefully the problem is solved. A buddy has the identical truck to mine and he has gone through one EGR valve as well, same thing his truck started to have bad turbo lag. The turbo lag on my truck now is minimal-none, I punch it and it goes.

No, that is not a little lag- that sounds abnormal to me. I would try to get a ride in another 6.0 to feel the difference.

When you lifted your truck you put larger tires on your truck. The larger tires will make the turbo lag seem worse since you are trying to get more rotating mass moving. I had a 01 duramax lifted 6 inches and the lag was worse with the bigger tires. Get a programmer and that should help. Remember this is a 7000 lb plus truck you are trying to get moving and the lift doesnt help, you will just need to plan ahead more.

Larger diameter tires kill the final drive ratio
That is not to say you do not have a bit of turbo lag, it is to say that tires can contribute to the overall affect.

04superduty is right on
