speedometer

Does anyone know if the new 5 speed transmission speed & mileage indicators can be calabrated for larger tires? Will they need to re-program the engine computer?

You are correct..I had to recalibrate mine at a cost of 54 bones. It was off 5 MPH at 70. Its a PCM interconnect the speedo guys in Tacoma used. Running 35" BFG AT's. Its just nice to know what your actual speed is and computing mileage.

Does anyone know if this can be done for 37inch tires?
And if so, anywhere near Phoenix?
Thanks
Steve

My thoughts exactly on computing mileage and appx. speed. I checked mine with a GPS prior to the lift & new tires and it was reading 2-3 MPH slower. Now about 7-8 MPH slower. I will call the dealer Monday and see if they can do it. I just do not want them to flash my engine in the process.

Super Steve...look in the phone book under speedometer, or call your dealer to inquire. Yes they will recal 37's. I too was fed up with using GPS so I called my brother at the dealership and they sent me down the road to have it done as they didn't do it there. It might save you 20 greenbacks if you have it done somwhere other that the dealer, who knows. It takes no longer that 5-10 minutes to do. Alot of money for the procedure, but what are ya gonna do?

My truck is stock and was 3mph slow as compared to my GPS and my "bithcing wife" in the car behind me who was wondering why I was not doing at least 70 on the Interstate.

I took it to the dealer and they reprogramed the speed. These changes or parameters are not part of the re-flashing procedure... they are two different issues and procedures.

No my speed is right on and mife quit complaining... at least when she is following me in her car.

My dealer did not charge me since it was factory wheels and totaly stock at the time. Other than that, I do not know what dealers normally charge or any other shop.

Good luck,

I recall reading somewhere that the dealer can only reprogram it for up to 35inch tires. I haven't tried any speedometer shops yet cause I was hoping a power programmer would come out that would be able to do it. And/or, if I regear(it runs fine now and I like running 2000rpm at 80mph,which is probably 90mph), I'm hoping that will correct it. But I also recall reading a post somewhere that said it wouldn't. It worked on my Toyota, so I don't understand why it wouldn't work on this. Maybe the speed sensor is connected to the pinion gear?

Recalibrating a speedometer

Can I go to a transmission place to have my speedometer recalibrated?

I have 2003 F150 and just switched my tires and wheels from 235/70/16 to 265/75/16. Since I switched my Tires & Wheels do I need to do anything else to my truck besides recalibrating the speedometer?

Does recalibrating make the proper changes to the gears and transmission?

I have 305/70/16 on aftermarket 8 inch wheels the diesel tech at the dealership tryed to reset mine but could not, he said he had done before on 285/75/16 tires but that was the only ones he had done. the funning thing is the tire is the same height, I am going to try again next time in the shop. didnt charge anything.

My dealer will adjust the speedo only if the lift was installed there. They said due to liability they would not adjust mine. I did test drive a truck that has the same lift as mine and checked the speed with my GPS and it was 1-2MPH off. Mine now is 7-8MPH off and would like to get it a little closer to actual. I wonder if all dealers have this policy or only mine?

Not as of yet. That's what I'm holding out for. As soon as they add that, I'm buying.

JohnF250, let me know when you get a Predator? So far you have given me excellent advice on lift & wheels. Also, have you towed your boat yet? I was hoping for a dry weekend to pull mine out of the garage and take it for a spin. Also, these trucks handle this So. Cal rain storm very well!

bikenbob: I sure will let you know. I'm anxious to hear from other Predator owners on mileage issues etc... I think I will wait until boating season is near to purchase one..I have not towed my boat yet.. waiting for a nice dry day I'm having perfect-pass installed in my boat right now, and I'm sure once I get that installed, I'll want to get out on the lake. I can't wait.

I drove a 75 mile round trip in the rain today.. it was coming down hard.. was awesome.. even had to drive through some 2' sections of water where the water was flowing over some flood channels etc..

Where do you tow your boat? River?
