Broken #4 Spark Plug

Broken #4 Spark Plug
While tuning up my 00' F-150, I changed every spark plug except #4 which took a little extra time. Finally got it out and there are no threads on it.
Is this a common probmlem? I know that the cowl design routes water to the rear plug, and causes them to rust, but how do I fix it? I'm thinking about using an exstension, 8-point socket and an easy out, to get the threaded portion of the spark plug out..
Anybody have this problem??

Hi and welcome to FTE
Sorry to hear about your problem. There seems to be a problem with the plug threads in the heads on these Modular engines. I would spray liberal amounts of penetrating lube in there and let it soak a bit then try the easyout and see if it will come out without pulling the threads out of the head. Get a tap and clean up the threads in the head before installing a new plug. Use lots of lube on the tan so that most of the shavings will stick to the tap and not fall into the cylinder.
Good luck,
Jimmy

We got the thread out with no problems. Put all the plugs in and cranked it back up. It still missed real bad. Disconnected the battery and hooked it back up. Still missed. Drove it to go get the code read and it just cleared up all of a sudden. I have had no problems since then. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Thanks for the reply.

thats what im gathering hugepettyfan, i kept reading after i posted last night. also, i think i was misinformed by the autozone guy, he told me #6 and #8 was on the passenger side, but from what i am gathering from some of the posts it is on the drivers side, can anyone tell me for sure on a '00 ford f150 4.6L. i was concentrating on the cop's on the (what i thought was) #6 and #8 but again i was told these were the passenger side. thanks for help in advance. jim

thanks jimmy, im still having the problem with the truck missing, though. It is only "part time missing", what i mean is sometimes at an idle it will idle smooth as could be, and then sometimes rough. beyond the plugs which i've changed, and believing the cop's are ok, what is the next "process of elimination??? any help???
