99-Installing Child Seat Tether Anchor
I need to install a child seat tether anchor behind the 2nd row seat of my '99 Expy. I received the kit free from my local Ford dealer.
My big question is: what is the best way to get underneath the car to install the under car anchor? I have a pair of drive-up ramps. Should I place them under the front wheels and drive forward onto them or should I place them behind the rear wheels and backup onto them? I know that it sounds like a stupid question, but I have never backed up onto the ramps before and the only other time I used them was to do an oil change on my '97 Explorer, which I traded in for the Expy.

Whichever direction you take, be certain the ramps are up to the job, as the average Expedition is about 1,000 pounds heavier than the Explorer. I'm not certain exactly where the tether must be mounted, but if you have the taller 17" tires, perhaps you could drop the spare and get where you need to go without ramps.

99-Installing Child Seat Tether Anchor
I just contacted my loco Ford dealer and they said they would provide the kit for free but that I would have to pay them labor to install it. The parts guy said that the kit connects on each side of the vehicle (kind of where your shoulder would be if you sitting in the back (middle seat). He did not say anything about it mounting to the floorboard though. I told him to just order it and Iwould put it in myself. I was not going to pay for them to do it. Anyone else install one before ??

I installed one on my '97 Explorer. This one is slightly different in that the cargo area carpet is removed at the forward end (near the second row of seats). Also, the spare tire doesn't need to be removed since the installation area is forward of it. I haven't installed my anchor yet, but it doesn't look too difficult after reading the installation instructions. The anchor does indeed connect through the floorboard sheet metal to a mounting point that you place against the sheet metal on the underside of the vehicle. The instructions are very detailed.
