Broken glow plug: help needed

Hello all, I've been lurking and learning on the site for a couple months now while I was shopping for a truck and finally pulled the trigger on a 94 250 with a stock turbo. PO took it to a shop that did some shady work to the truck, and I'm currently trying to straighten out the issues to include changing the glow plugs.

In the effort of doing so, I somehow managed to break what I would call the "collar" of the glow plug, or the part where the 3/8in socket actually makes contact with the glow plug in order to turn it. So now the glow plug is stuck threaded down into the head, and I have no way of unscrewing it since I cannot turn it. Any advice on how to solve this issue? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

-Will

Going to have to drill it out and use an easy-out i imagine. Could try welding a nut to it, but if its stuck good enough that i broke it, i doubt it will work. That said, heat can do wonders sometimes.

You can do it the easy way or the hard way:
Easy way is to... Ignore it. Grab a new glow plug and just attach it somewhere near the engine where it's out of the way. Connect it up like the original one was. This allows the controller to "see" 8 glow plugs and get hot enough. The engine will start on 7 when it's really cold, and the 8th will start working in 15 seconds or so once the running engine warms it enough without the glow plug assist.
Then, you can hold off on trying to get it out until you need to pull the motor in a few years or decide to do a full overhaul at some point.
This is the "daily driver" approach.

The hard way is to try to do what hairyboxnoogle suggested, using a drill and easyout. Probably also want to try to get it out while the engine is still warm.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I guess I'll see how "the easy way" works out for now and see where it gets me. I'll post again if I have any issues, and again thanks for your help!

Just make sure to add that 8th glow plug /somewhere/ as a load for the glow plug controller.. or it won't start easily at all.
