92 F250 7.5L 3G Alternator Upgrade
Hello! I am probably beating a dead horse and I am sorry if I am but I cant seem to get a clear answer since a lot of the information I find pertains to F150s anyway I have seen the 3G alternators I find say for F250s 1995 and up and I know you have to do some modifications to the wiring on my 92 but can I get a 3G alternator for a 95 and up and modify the wiring? I am just making sure before a dump $100.00 on one and not have it work. Thanks!

From what I can tell, you need the 7" 3G alternator to fit on a 2G 460 truck.

Since this keeps getting brought up can you measure the distance between the mounting bolts on your 2G alternator? Just for my own curiosity.
If you want a 95 amp alternator tell the parts guy you have a 1995 F250 460. See if they have the connector pigtail too. If they don't have one you're going to have to pick one up from the junkyard. It doesn't matter what application the pigtail comes off of, all 3G pigtails are the same.
If you want a 130 amp alternator tell the parts guy you have a 1997 Taurus 3.0L OHV. You need the pushrod motor not the over head cam motor. The bolt spacing is 7". It can be installed as is, but the wiring faces the other side of the motor. It can be re-clocked to re-position the case for more accessible wiring.
I've never done the 2G conversion, but this is the wiring diagram I've always used.

Let me make sure I understand this right.....The '97 Taurus 3.0L pushrod motor definitely uses a 130A 3G with 7" bolt hole center to center? I have been trying to get a clear, definitive answer on this for a while. That is what I have been looking for to get an alternator for my 4BT Cummins in my '78 F150........
