2G to 6G alternator conversion

I have got a 6G alt for really cheap and want to put it in my 86 F250 that has the dreaded 2G. I have found a million threads and discussions on converting using the 3G but nothing for the 6G. It physically fits but the wiring is was I'm stumped on.

Can anyone help either with instructions or with a wiring diagram?

Thanks guys I appreciate it.

That's a computer controlled alternator, isn't it?

That's what I'm thinking too. I had the alternator go out on my 2007 and it was over $300 just for the alternator. Parts guy that I've known for lots of years said the new ones are controlled by the ECM, that's why they are expensive.

There were diagrams of all these alternators on the old RJM website.

IIRC the pcm controls the regulator, and there's no simple way to do pwm without it.

Seems the grey and black ones can be wired in like a 4G.

Thanks for the replies everyone. So it sounds like theres a chance that this could work for me? I took a few pictures of the alternator that I have. Still not too sure which one I'm working with here. I think it might be 160 amps though.

I noticed that the wires are labeled '3', '2', '1' instead of 'A', 'S', 'T' like I was expecting.

So what do you guys think? Can I use this on my '86? I got it from a 2002 Taurus. The cool thing is that it physically fits into my truck after I tap the 3/8 hole and put the V belt pulley on it.

Sorry to sound so clueless, I've never done an alternator upgrade before.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

It looks like the regulator is gray???

If so, you can see the color codes call for the yellow/white 'sense' wire going to the output and the light green/red 'exciter' wire is connected through the charge light in the dash.

Both these wire colors should already be in the regulator plug of your 2G harness.

Brute,
I'm pretty sure that in the white (LRC) regulated models the PCM uses pulse width modulation to delay and ramp up output.
Ford did this to keep the alternator from suddenly loading the engine and causing a wavering idle.

ArdWrknTrk, so I just have to wire it up like your diagram and it will work? Its that easy? What do I do with the third wire labeled '1' (orange with yellow tracer)? Just tape it up?

Also, the middlle wire looks dark green with red tracer not light green with red tracer. Does that mean anything

Sorry again for sounding so dumb about all this its just that I wish I had a 3G alternator because there are so many detailed tutorials on it.

You don't sound dumb.
You're breaking new ground!

Are you sure your regulator is gray, and not white? (I'm looking at your pics on my phone...)

Because the pinout should match Ryan's schematic, but Ford has its wiring conventions.
Yellow/white is always 'sense' and light grn/red is always the 'exciter'.

I'm going to look up the application for your alternator donor to confirm what's up with that.

2F1U-DA appears to be a 110A unit from a 2002-06 Sable/Taurus 3.0l.
Lester 8268...

When I search for a regulator/brush holder for that it comes back as white.

I suppose you could swap the regulator for the gray or black ones found in pickup applications.
