Wiring a 12v power to up fitter switches

I have a 2010 F250 and wanted to power a dash camera using the upfitter switches. I purchased a 12volt wire, but am unsure on where to wire it so that it will only power up when the ignition is on.. Any suggestions? Thanks

if youve already got the switches installed then look under the dash-drivers sidearound the steering column there should be four wires ,not sure on the colors but they should be all together, but anyway flip a switch and check for power at one of the four wires and go from there

Does the 1999 F250 SD have the blunt cut wires, too, if no upfitters are present?

The blunt cut wires were installed whether upfitter switches or not. What year Ford added the blunt cut wires would be the question.

You will need to look in your truck to see if they are there or not.

The 99 should have some blunt cut pass thru wires. They are in a similar position inside the cab and they come out above and to the outside of the master cylinder under the hood. It saves you the process of running a wire through the firewall, but you still need to hook up power and your own switch.

Deeman194,

Just a word of caution on using the Upfitter Switches/Wires. Be aware the switches are rated at 30/15/10 amps depending on which one you use.

If you placed an inline fuse with the camera supply wire rated for it's wiring that is good. If not, you might want to consider doing that. I suspect the supply wires for the camera are fairly small.

If, and I would agree it probably is a big if, there would develop a short in the camera (or camera wire), the wires could burn and cause a fire before the fuse for the Upfitter Relay would blow. Wires burning up under the dash is no fun. I have seen it happen.

On my truck, Upfitter 3 is rated the lowest at 10 amps. If nothing else, you may want to consider putting the camera on that switch.

Good luck with your camera.

Tom
