Why are my battery cables melting?

My 1989 f350 diesel is melting down the battery cables does anyone know what could cause this, how to fix and prevent? I think I can order new ones through orieley. Thanks for reading - justin

If the cables are bad that will happen ... It can also happen due to a bad starter!

If you replace the starter use the Mitsubishi, it's a better starter.

I suggest reading this Voltage Drop Testing How-To: Fix That Slow Starter before throwing parts at it.

Resistance causes heat build up. Dirty connections, under sized cables or heavy load will cause cables to melt.

To much load or to much resistance.
