Are swing away mirrors from the 80's and 90's the same?

If I'm not mistaken, the Swing Away mirrors with an F0 part number don't come with the gasket. The mirrors look identical with an E5 part number from the 80's, but come with the gasket.

Are they the same with identical door mounting points, or did Ford actually change something?

If you're referring to TYPE 9 Low Mount Swing-Lock mirrors, 1973/79 is not the same as 1980 and later!

1973/79: There were FOUR different types using THREE different mirror heads.

The span between the upper and lower brackets could be 6 11/16" or 7 27/32."

And, one type has curved brackets, t'other has flat brackets.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
TYPE 8 was introduced in 1975 as part of the Camper/Trailer Special package, optional on other trucks and Econolines.

Yes Bill, type 9's. They look identical for 1980-1996. F0tz-17696 does not appear to come with the plastic gasket, while the e5tz-17696 models do. I found two NOS e5tz-17696 mirror setups so I wanted to make sure.

My dad had type 9 on his 1978 and the 1979 F-250s.

80-86 is one style
98-91 is another
92-97 is another(very noticeable, the top bracket is UNDER the mirror arm)

The suffix is missing from this mirror, and it's very important, as due to the aero mirror head, there is a right & left.

Plus...there's another right side...with a convex mirror glass.

These are chrome mirrors, the mirror head measures 5" x 8."

E5TZ-17696-A .. Right TYPE 9 Mirror with Aero Head / Obsolete ~ 2 available NOS

E5TZ-17696-B .. Left TYPE 9 Mirror with Aero Head / Obsolete ~ 35 available NOS

E5TZ-17696-C .. Right TYPE 9 Mirror with Aero Head with convex mirror glass / Obsolete ~ 1 available NOS

I meant the -a and -b suffixes.

Brad, on the later 80's mirrors e5tz-17696-a/b, the bracket is below the arm well. Thats why I thought they were the same.

I hope so, because...
Be aware that if the E5TZ-17696 mirrors have -D or -E or -F suffixes .. these are Bronco II/Ranger mirrors.

The 1980 and 1981 versions of Type 9 has a more triangular shaped mirror head than the 1982 - 1986.
