Will a '64 Mercury 390 block fit in a 1976 Ford F100 Ranger XLT

Hello, I recently bought a 1976 Ford F100 Ranger XLT 4x4 with a 390 with a C6 transmission. I have bought new heads, new gaskets, Etc. I just took it back into the mechanic because it started to act up again. After much time he told me I had a cracked block... I have been looking for a block for about 3 weeks and I finally came across one that is cheap and right by my house, but the catch is that it is to a 1964 Mercury. I was wondering if that would bolt up to my transmission and fit into my truck. Thanks a bunch for your help! I appreciate it!

If the FE engine is from a 1958/64, it will have rounded valve covers without holes for smog valve/oil cap. There will be an oil fill tube at the right front side.

If from a 1961/64 Mercury, M E R C U R Y will be embossed on the valve covers.

1958/64 FE engines were only installed in cars, have a different bolt pattern on the block where the rubber insulators attach than 1965/76 FE engines.

To install in 1965/71 cars, 1965/76 trucks, brackets have to be made for the rubber insulators.

1965 and later FE engines will bolt into cars/trucks because they have the correct bolt pattern on the block.

These engines have pent roof shaped valve covers with holes in them for smog valve/oil cap, there is no engine oil fill tube.

btw: Be aware that 390's were not factory installed with 4WD .. and on sale day, 352/360's magically become 390's!

+1. The early 390 motor mounts are different enough you cannot modify the later ones to fit.
