76 F250 Questions
Hi All,
I am normally lurking in the '57 to '60 pages but recently was given a '76 F250. Actually I was given the truck in 2002 when the owner passed away but never followed through. His wife worked with me and I kinda felt like I was taking advantage of her if I took it. The truck has a 360 (they thought it was a 390) and a T18 trans and was running great when it was parked. Well his wife passed last week and at the get together after the funeral, they asked me when I was picking up my truck.
I have an ’89 F250 donor truck with a 5.0 EFI for my ’58 F100 project but the first thought after hearing the truck was still mine was a 390 (didn’t know it was a 360 yet) would sure look good in the ’58. I swung by today while I was working and got a quick look and some photos. I expected it to be overgrown with weeds, trashed with rotting tires, and rat infested (It is parked in a rural area) but was pleasantly surprised. One tire is flat (might be salvageable) but the rest is in pretty good shape. Has very minor body damage on the passenger side but very livable. Interior is in great condition. I forgot to look at the odometer.
I am hoping to bring it home this weekend, change the fluids, clean out the gas tank and carb bowl and see if she will fire. I should probably blow all the dry leaves out of the engine compartment first….
If she is truly plug and play, I may try to keep her though my wife pointed out I have 11 vehicles at the house now… Yes I live in the country….. No, none of them are in the yard….. Everything but the ‘58 runs and has air in the tires…
Anyone know a ball park value in the Northern CA area for a truck like this? If it isn’t worth selling, I’ll drive it. Maybe give it to my sister and brother in-law. They need a truck and were talking about a Dodge. I know, right? Gotta do what I can to save them…..

Hoping someone here sees this post and can answer my question. Truck is home and cleaned up. motor is cleaned up with ne oil and cylinders have been soaking in trans fluid. Want to see if she will start up so I am going to put some fuel into the vent on the carb to fill the bowl and pull the fuel line into the pump and run it into a can of fuel. Unfortunately when Doc passed away he asked that all his keys be buried with him. (Not sure why). They thought they kept a set but they are not for this truck. Gonna run a hot to the positive of the coil and jump the solenoid but do I need to run a hot to the white wire on the ignition module?

Found the answer to my earlier post. Only need to jump the coil. Did that and she fired right up and runs strong. Here are a few more pics.
Took every inch of the trailer and some. Had to use blocks on the rear tires to get the bumper up over the front rail.
Cleaned up the motor, disconnected the fuel line to the pump, added fuel to the carb via the vent, and she fired right up. Ran a fuel line from the pump to a gas can and let he run. Very strong, no smoke, and no noises. I bet it would pass smog as all the smog equipment is there. Has over $800 in dmv fees though.... Gotta say this motor (minus the smog crap, and with a 4 bbl intake and carb) would look great under the hood of the '58.....

I agree Tedster and the plan is to get the truck on the road and then rebuild the 292, taking my time and doing it right. The engine doesn't have a whole lotta miles on it as it was parked in 1969 after something failed. Problem is no one remembers why? All I know is the driver's side valve cover is missing and the rocker arm was removed. Inside the cab of the truck were 2 rocker arm assemblies, one complete and one missing a few rocker arms. I'm gonna pull the engine and take it apart but don't want to do that until the auditor/controller (wife) authorizes the funds to have the block checked and machined.
