Clifford dual intake install

Well as the title says I did it. And it was rather easy. Just an intake swap in my books. Coming from their single carb intake it was relatively easy.

However now I have questions regarding vacuum lines and my massive vacuum leak.

I don't know much about the 38s and my yota guy is out of town, however I only see one spot for vacuum lines. I need three. One ported, two manifold. For Ac/heater controls and brake booster and then distributor.

And I have a big vacuum leak. I'm assuming it's my gasket/headers but I need more info on the webers before I say that's the cause.

Either way, once I had fuel, she spit sputtered and then roared to life with open headers!

Did you install a new intake/header gasket?

It looks like there is a vacuum port on your dual carb intake under each carb ( the ones you've got plugs in ) . Those should give you your manifold vacuum. And if you only want to use one then add a T or a vacuum tree to one of the ports.

But if you have a massive vacuum leak you need to hunt that down before you get into doing any tuning.

I ran the same setup for a while before I recently changed to EFI. Anyway I had good luck using the Remflex gasket, sealed up the intake and exhaust very well. As far as the vacuum lines I used the original vacuum tree from the factory manifold directly into the Clifford manifold. Also make sure to check the float level, mine were not set correctly initially and caused drivability issues until I figured they were wrong.

I agree with Fordman, it looks like manifold vac under each carb.

1986inline6; I looked to see your posts so not to hijack here, but what efi? Do you have a build thread/link?

Yes there is one on the front side of each carb, but I'm pretty certain it is just manifold. I need a ported still. After I reroute my vacuum lines.

I used the one they gave me( it was a big thick one piece one. And I assume that is my issue, but I can't be certain.

I have the two big ones plugged yes, and then there's two small ones under the choke. And by that I mean one under each choke.

I have to figure out the brake booster situation. My weber air filters have a big thick white plug that they say connects to the pcv system on toyotas.

I have a lot of stuff to figure out before it runs good. My big vacuum leak is the biggest.

The brake booster vacuum hose has to be hooked up to manifold vacuum. Pull one of the big plugs that you have installed in your manifold ( between your heater hose hook ups ) and install a vacuum nipple or tree. Then hook up your brake booster hose there. If you install a vacuum tree then you can also hook up anything else that needs to be hooked up to manifold vacuum.

For the ported vacuum you will have to find the port on one of the carbs.

And you really need to consider dumping one of your valve cover breathers and installing a PCV valve.

I tried to, originally and it wasn't enough. It built too much pressure and leaked all over my engine, from bottom sides and top. I wouldn't mind doing a open style pcv type thing to pull from it. And even do it to both. I'll take pictures of the setup the carbs come with and the stuff they give.

I thought the ported vacuum had to be mid level to top of carb and not at the bottom. My Holley had designated lines and sections and such.

If I remember correctly I used the tree off of my stock intake.

If you can't find a vacuum tree that mounts on the engine just install a single large vacuum nipple and run a hose to a distribution block/vacuum tree that you can mount on your firewall. You can find them on many different cars & trucks at the salvage yard. Or if you want something fancier there are many aftermarket billet style blocks available. But They are much more expensive then the plastic stock ones.

Here's a link to a ebay auction to show you what a stock one can look like. There are many different styles out there.

Oh okay. Yeah I have that still on my firewall, but I need the big brake booster connection, and the ported one. I also need to figure out the rest of my issues lol

Then just install a brass T-block into your intake. Then install one vacuum nipple for the brake booster and another one for your firewall distribution block.

I can't help you with the ported vacuum. The last time I ran a progressive secondary weber carb, I was 16 and it was on a 2.3L in a 79 Mustang. I'm 40 years old now so it's been a while. There is a reason I prefer the simplicity of the Autolite 2100's!!
