vacuum source

I need a source of vacuum for the vacuum tree on the rear of the intake manifold (i am using the ford tree on the Edelbrock intake). Can I 'T' into the 3/8" vacuum line that goes from the rear side of the carb to the brake vacuum booster or is this a not-so-safe thing to do? Would it adversely affect my braking ability on a '78 F250 Crew 4x4?

That vacuum tree is a manifold vacuum source itself. That's why it's threaded into the intake manifold. Unless I'm not reading your post correctly? In case I'm not, the answer to your other question is yes, you can T off the 3/8" line on the back of the carb, because it's just manifold vacuum as well.
