EBPV Delete - Gut or Not to Gut Pedestal

I have read both.... some say if you gut the pedestal and remove the guts (actuator and spring) that it will starve the turbo ???

Im doing this tomorrow and really want to know if I should remove all the guts and plug the hole or cut the actuator arm off, reinstall, and plug the hole??? I also know some weld the inlet and outlet oil ports inside but I don't have access to do that in my timeframe so they will stay open.

I plan on keeping the actuator unplugged and fooled with the EVP fooler resistor so the arm will not be active, I just don't know if by removing the actuator guts will the missing mass cause issues with oil volume in the cylinder?

If you just pull the guts out then yes. The pedestal has to cut and welded up

Mike,

So just cut the actuator arm shorter so it fits inside the pedestal allowing me to tap and plug and leave the spring and remaining arm inside?

Yeah, Im trying to prevent all that cutting and welding. I need to rebuild my turbo as well so time is a constraint as I can't have the truck off the road

Yeah, but it don't see it being worth the money when you so many have had success in plugging with no issues for a few bucks and some wrench time.

I just gutted mine and put the cover back on. Tapped and plugged the hole. No issues here.

What is the gain in doing the delete? I thought it helped warm the truck up? I live in Northern MN warming up is a good thing.

The EBPV actuator can develop oil leaks and be messy.

The valve itself in the housing is an exhaust flow restriction.

Just doing the valve delete helps a little with performance but leaves the potentially (or already) leaking actuator in place.

Living where you do, fixing an oil leak and leaving the system in place is likely a wise decision.

I live just outside Fargo and have never had an EBPV....If you want your truck to warm up faster, drive it instead of letting them sit and idle.

I cut and welded my pedestal 12 years ago when I was still south of Duluth si I've got plenty of experience with it gone, warm-ups don't take any longer...
