Banks T04B

Banks T04B
Hey guys, long time no talk. Just picked up a used Banks turbo kit from someone in Seattle, and just wanted to get some opinions from you guys.
It is a first gen Banks turbo kit for the 6.9/7.3, turbo has supposedly 280k miles on it, no record on when it was actually installed. Guy who sold it put maybe 500 miles on the engine before he realized his head gaskets were seeping oil something awful. So he sold the turbo kit (to me) and is selling the engine separately. Said he didn't notice any power issues in the engine at all with this turbo.
The turbo is labeled as a Garrett T04B, which I can't find a whole lot of info on. From what I can find, is that the composite oil seal starts to leak if you disassemble the turbo. There is very little lateral movement, and the turbine/compressor wheel spin freely. There is no vertical movement that I can feel by hand.
My two main questions are, does the oil drain tube go into the cavity that the CDR valve came out of on the valley cover? And should I bother rebuilding this turbo, or just drop it in? I'm missing minor things, like the GPC relocating bracket and CDR to intake blockoff, but those are easy to make. I intend to put it on my '88 7.3 IDI 2x4 with 84k. It's bone stock at the moment and a little gutless hauling my camper around.
I can post pics if necessary. Thanks for the help guys!

You can find the install instructions here:
http://assets.bankspower.com/manuals...rbo_Manual.pdf
They only used to have the Van kit instructions up back when I did mine, and if memory serves they are a bit more user friendly, the truck install manual I had was of a different vintage however and recommended max egt.of 1250.

Note that Banks reccomend a max EGT of 1150, and while the probe location is pretty turbo, it is at minimum nearly 6 feet from an exhaust port.

Well looks like I'll just install it for now and see what happens. Going over my parts and the install directions, I'm noticing I'm missing a few small things. Any advice on where to get them? The 3" to 3.5" 90 degree elbow is damaged, and I'm missing the GPC relocating bracket, CDR blockoff plate, and the filter element itseslf. Part number on the elbow is P12-3462 and the air filter element is 41505 that is 3.5" tall.
I'm also seeing that the Y pipe is specific between the E4OD and the C6. The truck this turbo came off of had a C6, I have a ZF5. Will that be an issue? or is the different pipes for clearing trans lines?

My kit had came from an E4OD truck, and I ran it on both a T19 and ZF. We had to clearance things a bit on the ZF(case ribs I seem to remember) bit it was nothing major.
As for the air filter, it looks to be available again, Jegs and Summit show it as in stock. 10 years ago this was not the case.
The number on the elbow is a Donaldson one, and its a good number.

I found a few of the parts that I'll need, I'll put the links for others as I'm sure they will be needed. When I install the turbo I'll follow up. Could be a few weeks before I get to it, have to do it around work.
Gromet for oil drain Banks Power Gale Banks Engineering 93043 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing
Turbine to Downpipe gasket Banks Power Gale Banks Engineering 93001 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing
Air filter Banks 41505, Banks Ram-Air Filter Elements | Banks
Hopefully someone else can post a link for the CDR hole on the intake plug, I can't seem to find one. Or I could just make one. Last other two pieces I'd need would be the O gasket for the intake to pressure chamber, and gasket for filter cover. Maybe I'll just silicone them on, that's what the PO did.

Thanks for the link, I bought one because I'm too lazy to build one. Do you have any pictures on how the pipes won't fit across the ZF? I can't find anyone else saying there's problems getting it on except for cutting a tab off. Don't know which tab either. I also don't know if the donor truck had a c6 or an E4OD.
