Added HID to the truck today
I've gone a lot of routes to make the headlights and lighting better on my vehicles over the years. Relays, upgraded wiring, different colors of light and so on. I just got this 99 F150 a couple of months ago, and within just days of bringing it home, I had two close calls with deer on the road. I do far more country driving than highway, and it's generally dark when I head to work, so I decided to tread the HID waters for a go. I read a lot about the concerns with light dispersion and aiming, and took it all into consideration. So far, from my tests, I don't believe I'll be blinding anyone, and the aiming process is still in an eval phase, but I wanted to share the results with a before and after shot. Both pics were taken in the same stretch of road at the same light level. I'm very pleased with the light output and the install was pretty much plug and play. The only thing I had to work out was the bulb install, as the old bulb retainers could not fit over the HID bulbs with the dimmer motor controller. We'll see how my current solution holds up.

The kit that I purchased was all inclusive. It had the relays, wiring harness, fuse and connectors perfectly matched. The most intrusive thing I had to do was use some self tapping metal screws to mount the slim ballasts (one per side).
The only thing I wish had fit better was the bulb retainers (that twist on and lock the bulb in). I'm going to have to work out a more premanent retainer for those, but I'm not sure what to use at this point. They're secure for now with some zip ties and don't seem to be going anywhere, but I definitely don't consider that a long term solution.

Nice blinding lights you have there.
Please don't blind everyone else with these crappy plug-n-play HID "kits".
You have less light output down the road and blind oncoming traffic, plus "8000k" is horrible for light output. The higher the number, the lower the lumens.
And yes, it is that bad, even if nobody flashes you, you still have a ton of glare. I can tell from that pic your blinding oncoming drivers though.
Either do a true retro fit or live with halogen.
This is what HID should look like:

Here is the kit that I used
And while I certainly respect your concern for the other drivers, I have made very sure that they are not blinding oncoming traffic. Are they as precise as your pic, no. Those did look very nice and sharp, and hopefully come tax time, I will replace my fixtures and have something as focused. Until then, while the deer are roaming my country roads every single morning and night, I'll remain happy with the light that I am getting right now. If I hadn't taken the time to aim the lights the way they are, sure, I might be blasting someone in the face, but for now, I'm not.

Your picture shows otherwise.

I agree, you can CLEARLY see the bleeding up the fence posts. That's the MO of a cheesy kit with terrible light focusing and control. Take a look at the pic that blupupher posted. See how crisp that upper cutoff is? That's a proper headlight.
You posted an "I don't care about anyone else, does my truck look cool" floodlight.
