Good morning guys. I just finished up a 2007 head light conversion on my 2000 F350. Looking at doing led headlights and I began wondering what my maybe some others have done or even possible suggestions. Ive come across these and wounder if anyone else has something similar.
LED bulbs in a reflector bowl housing are no better than HID's in a reflector bowl. Both scatter the light output and have tons of glare and blind oncoming drivers. If you are looking for a better light output I would highly suggest going with 05-07 headlights still but doing a projector retrofit, paired with a quality set of HID's. You can't go wrong with this setup, not only will you retain your high/low function but also have a lot better output vs stock and have a clean cut line!
Here's some examples of the output with a Mini H1 projector retrofit and some of the builds I have done.
Both hid and led bulbs have come a long way. I put an hid kit in my stock housings and it was too bright to oncoming traffic. Took it out and went to led bulbs. These didn't blind traffic but didn't put out great light. Got a new led kit that put out much better light on the road and still didn't blind anybody. Now I have the new upgraded hid sfb kits in both a 2006 and a 2012 duty and they rock the light without blinding oncoming traffic. All with stock housings.

WOW great job!!!
Ive considered doing a retrofit, but for right now. Its a bit out of my budget, and just like before i did my conversion. Im a bit nervous about opening up my headlights. How long would you say it took you to complete that.

Thanks! Opening them up isn't too bad if they're aftermarket, if they're OEM you will be fighting with them since they're permasealed. I couldn't really give you an accurate time frame it took as I know what I am doing so it doesn't take me as long as someone who's doing it for the first time. But I probably have around 5-7 hours from opening to closing the headlights up.
how about a link.... or part numbers for the 2012.. Thanks.
The latest HID kit I bought is the Brightsource kit. They have a ford kit with the H13 bulb that fits right in. The early kits had a bulb called rfb. You want the later kit with the bulb called sfb. I put this new kit in both my 06 and 12 superduties. It works well. The LED bulbs I used were cree brand in the same H13 bulb.
