2004 Freestar power door lock problems
Hi all! We have a 2004 Freestar that has developed a problem with the power door locks. Sometimes the locks unlock/lock and sometimes they don't. It happens with both the keyless entry remote and when we push the lock/unlock button on the door. It doesn't matter which we use and it when it does happen none of the locks will work. Sometimes they lock/unlock and sometimes they don't. In reading through some of the posts I have learned that there are 3 relays for the lock/unlocking of the power door locks, and that they are located on the smart junction boSJB)/fuse panel inside the van above the drivers leg. And if I read this correctly, the word is that these relays are hard soldered directly to the SJB. I also saw that if the SJB/fuse panel is replaced then it has to be reprogrammed?? Does anyone know what this could be other than the relays in the SJB? And if it is the relays that are the problem, is there a way to repair/replace without having to go to the stealership? Let me say thanks in advance for everyone's help. I'm an old guy with limited funds just trying to get our car fixed and I appreciate all the assistance and advice offered.

Your Freestar is more of a mini-van and not so much in the E-Series family. As such the electrical system will be a bit different so we might not be a lot of help here.
There should be an FTE sub-forum dedicated to that body/chassis or the Electrical and Wiring forum has a few great contributors too.

Freestar Power Door Lock Problems
Old Dad, are you still having issues locating those lock-unlock relays? I'm working on a 2004 that lock all 5 doors from the driver's door, but will NOT unlock them. Also getting the "door ajar" indicator light on with all doors closed. I've done some troubleshooting by checking all the switches (good) and came up empty on a solution. The only thing I know for sure is how to manually un-lock the back hatch and fix that stupid handle problem. I'll share that with you if you want.
On my way to the Ford dealer in Tucson this morning to get some answers and see if they will run a scan to tell me which door is "ajar", and see if that relay is replaceable. I'm about ready to give up, just one more shot at stupidity with such a poorly designed/engineered system. Using rivets to attach the sliding door un-lock pin assembly is just plain cheesy!
