Need help figuring out a short to the starter

I'm tring to figure out a short to the starter on my sons 1995 Cadillac Deville.I would post on the Cadillac forum but it seems like most Cadillac guys just take it to thier mechanic.
Got a good battery and a new starter, when my son put in the new starter he connecter both the positive wire and the wire to the neutral safety switch to the same terminal.ipulled the starter back out, had it tested and put it back in correctly.if you try to crank it it blows the fifty amp starter fuse immideatly. If you jumper it from the ignition post on the starter directly to the battery while someone turns the key, it cranks over but wont tart.Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

i went through the same thing on a caddy about 5 years ago and it was a corroded/broken wire under the main fuse block at the battery under the rear seat.
not sure on the 95 though, i believe the battery is still under the hood on them.

Was yours blowing the big 50amp fuse for the starter too? My battery is under the hood and the big fuse block is under the hood also.
I'm having trouble finding a good wiring diagram too,if anyone knows a good website...thanks!

Your local library might have a version of Alldata on their computers. Around here they have it, but you can only access it in the library. It's certainly on the computers that they have for patrons, and you might be able to get it if you're on their WiFi.

I'm having a hard time figuring out why that would blow the fuse unless it had a bad solenoid. The battery cable goes to the outboard large terminal, the strap from the starter motor housing goes to the inboard large terminal, and the NSS wire goes to the small terminal marked "S". Something isn't right here.

with the one i dealt with the wires under the fuse box were corroded and broke, then shorted out to ground blowing the main fuse every time you tried to start it.
