Tongue weight scale

I've never really checked my trailer tongue weight, but with a newer possibly less capable vehicle, I would like to buy a tongue weight scale. Any recommedations on brand, quality, price, & usage?

I have never used a scale specifically for the tongue weight, but I have used the local CAT scale every year to verify empty, loaded and tongue weights on my combination. it also confirms how much wieght my WD setup shifts to the front axle when hooked up. I am a bit **** about this after some very sketchy handling on icy roads with a WD setup.
Much more informative than just knowing one number.

Thanks Steve, I was looking at some of the 0-2000 LB models on Amazon. The Sherline LM2000 & the Reese 5780. Both look like the same manufacture and roughly the same price, about $140-155. I'm guessing there are not any bargain priced models available.

I have the instruction manual lying on my desk. Didn't realize it was here. I have a Sherline, which works very well and seems well made.

Thanks again, I notice that the Sherline is calabrated in both LBs & KGs. The Reese is only in LBs, but otherwise they look the same.

Sherline is the one to get. I bought mine directly from Sherline, way back when the original inventor was still alive. Now I think his family runs the business after his passing. Reese (Cequent Group) used to remarket the Sherline scale. Now though, you never know if the Reese product is an imported copy.

77F250 makes a good point about the tongue weight not being the only number to look at. One should take advantage of a multi platform CAT scale to verify front axle weight, rear axle weight, and trailer axle weights.

However, a tongue weight scale is quite useful at home, where it can help balance a trailer when loading, since the tongue weight can be adjusted by simply shifting weight behind or ahead of the axles. Whether it is water, batteries, firewood, or toys in the case of recreational towing, or whether it is tools, fuel, tires, or jacks in the case of racing, or whether it is simply cargo... the tag trailer is a teeter toter, and the tongue weight scale is quite useful in keeping the right balance of tongue weight vs ballast aft of axle. That helps set up the WD hitch ball angle. Then tow it all to the 3 platform scale once in a while.

Thanks for your detailed comments, I bought the Sherline brand from etrailer.com
