I'd imagine it will become a real recall, but at least it doesn't seem to be one that would cause a problem for a competent driver.

Whats the model year spread? I'd imagine that it would affect the 2011 / 2012 trucks as the 2013's came with a different booster pump. So this thread may be in the wrong forum anyway. I'll wait for some more info to come before I move it if needed.

Wasn't there a thread on this problem a while back? I seem to remember someone experiencing this exact thing and having the dealer tell him it was normal.

edit - ah, not exactly - this is the thread I was thinking about... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-cc-2-7-a.html

For what it's worth, I experienced a similar problem on my X5 a couple times this past summer - occasionally I would hit the brake and it feels like it's 10x harder to press. Release it and press again and it's fine. Point being that it definitely takes you by surprise when it happens and gives you a moment of panic. I can see it being a problem.

Tim beat me to it. The '13+ models use a cam-driven vacuum pump mounted on the valve cover. This could be a large benefit to those with '11-12 trucks who have paid to replace their vacuum pumps. IIRC they were over $600 and not covered under powertrain warranty.

At least they are admitting a problem and no one has died first

Amazingly easy to replace yourself. I did mine, and I am a knucklehead.
