emergency brake?
My brother is looking at a early 90's ranger and he was told that there is a problem with the emergency brake and that it is a farly common problem do you people know of this problem and how to fix it?

There is a ratchet type of mechanism on the parking brake assembly that, on occasion, allows the pedal to go lower than expected before the brake begins to engage. Ford has a small part to correct this, it's a little plastic wedge. Ford also issued a TSB on this matter. If you buy a new parking brake assembly, I would expect the part to be installed on it. However, if you're paying attention, it is pretty obvious that the parking brake is not well set and a person can release it and reset it. On the other hand, if one pushes a bit slower the problem usually doesn't surface. This parking brake issue should be no reason for anyone to reject buying this model of truck.
