Headlight Conversion Questions ?

I'd like to upgrade my "sealed beam" headlights to a white light ---- not any blue or yellow.

Does that mean I need a sealed beam repl kit and some sort of ballast and what type of bulb. I know I have to pigtail, no problem there.

They're all over the www - any experience with this project ?

Sent PM with link to such a project, hobbyist vendor doing a nice job of this very thing.

Sylvania Silver Star sealed beams are nice too---about the brighest self contained true sealed beam lamp out there I believe.

They do Annaleigh---they're installed in my '03 E250, vast improvement over the standard sealed beams.

Its only when we get into the more exotic high-current demand lighting where different connectors, heavier wiring and relays come into play. Living in the city I don't need quite that much light though.

Never thought of that but yeah---not really trying to spot opossums or other dear 1/4 mile downrange either. Plenty of stray cats and raccoons though.

I just bought 2 of these.

Amazon.com: HELLA 003427291 Vision Plus 190x132mm High/Low Beam 12V Halogen Conversion Headlamp (HB2): Automotive Amazon.com: HELLA 003427291 Vision Plus 190x132mm High/Low Beam 12V Halogen Conversion Headlamp (HB2): Automotive

They seem to work very well and don't require changing anything. They use a replaceable 9003/HB2 bulb.

In my case I had to replace my headlight plugs that had the wires falling apart with the dorman 84790 sockets. But this would not be required if your existing wiring works properly. I just cut off the old ones and put these on.

Those Dorman replacement connectors are great--I would have suggested them had you not beat me to it!

I bit of soldering them to the existing wiring, shrink wrap the solder joints and you've got one (or two) great connectors now.

Yeah only the driver side socket was messed up but i figured if i'm going to replace one i'll replace the other as well.

Honestly I think one of the previous owners of my van had a battery leak, because EVERYTHING around the battery on the drivers side is corroded and rusted to hell.

I have a similar situation but on passenger's side inner fender from the washer solution reservoir leaking for more than a few years. Its a bit unsightly but so far nothing fatal.
