HID Conversion?

Who has the best kit for HID conversion? Any drawbacks? Heat? etc...
What's a good price for a HID kit?

just want to ask that you properly aim the damn things if you get a set. Alot of people run them out here and I'm always getting blinded by the a-holes that have 'em aimed wrong

I've seen several on flea bay. Maybe Projector would be the way to go? You tube has a video of the install with before and after. But I don't remember if they said what brand they were using. Seemed very easy to install.

After doing lots of research, I might have a few answers for you.
As far as the HID's go, if you do get a PnP kit, see if you can find an HID reflector from a 09 mustang. (Some mustang came from the factory with HID) This reflector has a different light dispersal pattern than the standard halogen reflector in your truck making them more effective.
If you can't find a reflector, or don't have the time/knowledge to install one, then like Tylus said, re-aim your headlights. They look bright and pretty, but I have seen the lighting actually get worse sometimes because they just throw light everywhere and don't properly get directed into a beam. Kinda like a lighter in the dark. It will create light, but it isn't directed into a certain spot making it less effective.

For projectors, It depends on what kind of projector you want. There are HID projectors, and there are Halogen projectors, and they are very different from each other. The aftermarket headlight assemblies that come with projectors, are halogen projectors. They normally use an H1 style bulb instead of the H13 your truck comes with. I have not tried them myself, but I have heard that they are also a very dim light.
To get an HID projector, you can do one of 2 things. Either retrofit a pair of HID projectors into your headlight, or find a headlight that has already been retrofitted with the projectors.

If you want better lighting, I would suggest the retrofit HID lights to get true HID's.
If you just want it to look pretty, maybe a properly aimed PNP HID set is the way to go.

Thanks for the info.
I want better lighting. Maybe I should go with an upgrade/higher wattage bulb? Any suggestions? Maybe just replace the headlight and the driving lights with...

Have you tried the Sylvania Ultra or Silverstar replacement bulbs. They are whiter and brighter. Not as bright as HID but a big improvement over OEM.

As already said, the biggest problem with the HID kits is that the ford OEM housing is not designed for HID. No amount of re-aiming is going to make them right. I was driving back from the medical center the other night and some guy with his decked out '04 F-150 had HIDs. I had to slow down and change lanes just to get him to pass me.

I'm thinking replacement bulbs may be the way to go. Silverstar? I've used them in previous vehicles. Noticable improvement on the F150? I would do both, headlight and driving lights.

I run the Silverstars on both my rigs, main beams and fogs. Big difference in my opinion. Only draw back is they have a relatively short life span compared to standard halogen bulbs and they will fade overtime. The ones in my F150 are two years old (surprised one hasn't died yet) and they are not as bright as they used to be. However, I think they got rid of the longevity issues with the newer Ultra's. They can be had on eBay for pretty cheap compared to the local bigbox auto stores...

I put the Ultras in my Civic and one blew after 8 months. The Silverstars in my truck are doing fine so far, knock on wood.

Be careful if you are buying the HID (xenon) kits off of ebay especially from a guy call supervtec. I found out the hard way. 2 kit are available (xenon and bi-xenon). The standard Xenon (the one I got for my 06) is just one beam. This means that you no longer have the use of your high beams. If you turn on your high beams, the lights go off (Ford uses one bulb for the high and low beam). The problem with the F-150 (at least mine) is when I unlock the truck only one head light come on. When I start the truck the light goes out, and when I manually turn the lights on, they both come on.

My brother has a 05 F-150 and we figured that we would try the Bi-xenon kit. This kit give you a high and low beam by moving the bulb inside the housing. It actually works good as long as you do not try to use your fog lights. For some reason when the fog lights are turned on the high beams also come on. This kit however did not have the same unlock/1head light problem my truck had.

Frustrated with the problems encountered with the two kits I contacted Mr supervtec and he told me that I need a canceller to correct the problem . After I expressed my frustration with the quality of the kit, he offered to send me the canceller. I installed it and unfortunately it did not work on my truck. I then tried it on my brothers and it corrected the problem for a few days and then one of the ballast quit working.

We have since pulled the kit out of my brothers truck and gone back to the original bulbs. I still have the HID kit in mine, however the beam pattern sucks if you have to drive in fog. If you are not in fog the extra light is great (other drivers on the road dont seem to like it too much). I would be interested to hear if other have had similar problems with HID kits.

We have a few users running HiDs here... one that I know of is... user: 300wrx (something like that) I think he's had some fairly decent results.

There also has been some mix-up and discussion on Who carries a (better) dual filament set-up.

As far as the Ultras and Silverstars I've ran both-

I didn't care for the Ultras...
The Silverstars had a real clean white light output. It also seemed like my visible width and distance was a bit different.

I ultimately had to go back to my normal halogens- My wigwags were burning out the Ultras and SSs left and right (literally).

I've had pretty good luck with silverstars.....they're brighter for sure when they're new....but they do have a shorter lifespan and the headlights have dimmed a bit to probably back to normal....

The silverstars in my truck are almost 1 year old now, and I'm still noticing as much light coming out of it as I did day one. For the most part...

I'm sure if I replace the bulbs, I'll notice a difference again, but for now, both lights still work and I haven't had to replace either yet.

I'm still not sure if the silverstars I put in my fog lights caused them to melt, or if the 1/2" thick chunk of snow/ice covering them caused the melting.

Either way, just be careful with the fogs.
