I have been looking at converting my old seald beam headlights over to a to a newer style bulb for brighter light. I'm looking at the lights in LMC but don't know what type of bulb it uses. Has anybody done this to their truck, if so do you like the new lights and were their any problems involved. I know I need headlight relays so I don't burn up my switch. Also is their anyone else manufacturing these conversion lights.
Well you should run a RELAY (LMC #47-3660) anyway, that helps brighten them up no matter what. But i don't see why the "euro clear" lighta (LMC part #47-0282) or the standard halogen headlight (part #47-0285) wouldn't work. Might need pig-tails for them though which also shows as #47-3660.
I did this conversion. It was very easy. I did get the heavy duity harness though. It was all plug and play. The difference was night and day. Just make sure you get them aimed correctly or you will make some people mad.
I definately recomend the upgrade. The nice thing about H4's is that there are also a wide range of bulbs you can get. I did the swap a few years ago in my bronco and it was amazing compared to the stock sealed beamers. I opted to get a tinted bulb, arctic purple, and to make up for some of the light the tinting takes away I opted for the 100/110W bulbs. Havent upgraded the harness yet and had no problems, but that is on my list of upgrades.
Another plus with the H4 bulbs is many are made for motorcycles so they are more vibration resistant and they plug into the stock harness. The only thing I have had to do to put the euro-clear lights in my 74 is to open up the hole in the back of the headlight bucket to make room for the weather boot around the plug.I did this with a 3 1/2" hole saw.
I just put in the H4 headlight conversion in my 79. All was pretty straight forward. Vast improvement in the lights. I got the conversion from Stylintrucks.com. Item # CWC7012. Bulbs were not included. Only problem is there is a little blue light bulb located in the conversion unit with its own pig tail. I don't know what that's for. I hooked it up to my side marker lights.
So now when my marker lights are on there is a little blue dot on the inside of my headlights. When the headlights are on the blue dot stays on also, just like my side marker lights. My grandson says it looks great, I'm not so sure I agree with him. But they sure are bright.
