Oil cooler replacement, EGR delete (with pictures)

Ok here I go. Trucks a 05 Excursion. It threw the low boost code the other day so I figured I'd pull the turbo and clean it out and while I was in there I'd be crazy not to install that EGR delete kit that's been sitting on the bench for two months and if I'm going that far I better change the oil cooler and get rid of the for gold coolant. This is my little mini thread. Feel free to comment or add your $02.
First off here's some of my parts

Then time for a coolant flush. My Deltas were only around 8 degrees so I just used some parts store 10 min rad flush junk and a whole lot of distiller water.

This is the first 6.0 I've worked on so I'm pretty slow. I stripped a turbo bolt and had to cut one off with a zip wheel. That kind of sucked.

Managed to get it mostly stripped down without too much hassle. This might take me awhile. With a full time job and four kids under the age of 5 it slows me down a bit lol.
Sorry for the crappy picture. I'll post more as I go along. Thanks to everybody around here for the help.

What's the best way to clean out the engine valley without dropping a bunch of crap into the intake runners?

Use a small putty knife and a shop vac.

I was under the assumption that the 04s didn't have the crappy STC fitting?

Might not hurt to put some lint free towels or something over those intake ports. Would hate to have a bolt or something fall down in there and go bump.....it's happened from what I have read.

You said the truck is an '05?
Reason I ask is that HPOP cover looks like my 03 that I did two weeks ago. 03 early 04 don't have the crappy STC fitting, rather the crappy HPOP

So.........maybe you would be money ahead to replace the HPOP while she is torn down this far, unless I am seeing things wrong in that pic?
EDIT

Ok, we were posting at the same time, I see it's the early 04 engine. I did not know they did that either!

Be ready for an oily mess when you pull that cooler cover, have rags ready to go. Might not hurt to put the updated oil screen under the cooler if it has not already been done. Nevermind, I see you have the updated screen in the pic of the parts, my bad

Only '03 and first few months of '04.

I would put tape or get rubber plugs to close off those ports before something gets in there. Over the years there been two or three threads about something being dropped in there with a pathway to a cylinder if a set of valves are open.

So how can I tell if I have the crappy fitting or not?

Judging by the picture that HPOP cover is solid, the later engines had the different cover where the pump stuck up above the cover and is visible. Early models pump is all under the cover. They don't have the same STC fitting, it's a STC style fitting to be sure but didn't tend to be a toublesome one from what I have read. Many would advise however to replace the discharge tube when doing the HPOP on the early engines. Later models rarely gave trouble with the pump itself.

I'm no expert, maybe I am seeing that pic wrong, it's a tad blurry but I would think even then it would be obvious. Is your ICP on passenger side valve cover towards the front? Or back behind and down a little bit of the IPR? I can make out the IPR coming off the cover, is there another sensor just behind that one? If so, that is your ICP and an early engine.
