2004 F350 just a little help
So I have a 2004 F350 that has been great, it's had the usual 6.0 issues and I repaired them. My problem is that I don't think that it's really running the way it should. I've got a strong rich smell from the exhaust pipe, it also feels like it's lugging when in overdrive seems like it started doing this when I had an injector replaced and did the oil pipe updates but not sure if it was then my truck was down for a few months and didn't drive it, it's just gotten worse. I really noticed it when I drove my son's truck last night with the same upgrades and mine. It just pulled stronger and the more I drove it the more I realize mine needs some attention. I've got stock gears and 37" tires but have had other trucks the same setup as this and ran completely different. I have gotten codes p2290 and p0404 p0405 when under full throttle but it starts and idles smooth, hot or cold. I have a ScanGuage and My icp idles at 585 and 3800 under full throttle, ipr staying at 23 at idle and 85 under throttle, icv .74-.86 at idle and 4.05 under throttle, Ficm is 48v, 28 lbs boost. I am getting fuel pressure and egt gauges soon. It's got the same exhaust smell with Sct tunes as without. I've even had a custom tune for the Powermax turbo. I hope that I didn't leave anything out, also a Cold air intake, straight piped, and egt delete, 58v Ficm blue spring and banjo bolts and that's about it. Any thoughts or other things to check out would be great.

Does your cold air intake have a filter that you put oil on?
Get some MAF cleaner and clean it. It may have gummed up.
Also clean the other common sensors. Clean EBP tube and make sure nothing is in the sensor hole.
Clean MAP hose and nipple.
Sounds like a good cleaning will bring your truck back to life.

Ok I've cleaning all the above and found the map sensor had the cloth hose with a little fraying blocking the hole, I cut it clean and looks good. All else looked good after cleaning not to bad to begin with. The truck runs smoother and the power is better, but not what I think I should be. At highway speeds it's like I have a headwind and the smell of rich diesel from the exhaust pipe is still there. I've put 200+ miles on it with the trans only tune and just can't figure it out. Still no codes. The egr is turned off but the only odd thing I do notice is the truck koeo I can hear a high pitched sound from the intake housing were the egr throttle actuator is. If I unplug the connection it goes away and I hear the plate release, I don't get that one. One way or another I don't think that should affect the truck but I don't know. Any other ideas would be great.

P0404 and P0405 are ERG related, if your deleted, make sure the valve is plugged in so the fan gets the correct inputs.
P2290 is low ICP... your ICP numbers look good.
You can unplug the EBP sensor and see if it improves performance. It will set a light, will run unplugged. Same for ICP, check the connector for oil intrusion.
watch the scan gauge for VGT, that's turbo vanes commanded position. If you notice it's 15 or 85%, that could mean a cleaning is needed of the turbo.
Check to make sure the butterfly flapper under the intake isn't stuck shut. You can remove the flapper without issue.

I'm open for any advice at this point, the smell of fuel from the exhaust pipe is the most annoying thing I can't park and idle for a minute and I can smell it everywhere. I'd like to get that problem out of the way most and go from there. I've been driving around all day and not one code in traffic on the throttle coasting down hills but when I stop fumes from hell. It's not my first 6.0 and not my last but it's driving me crazy.

I took off the intake elbow and removed the throttle plate, it was closed and the connection for it and the egr throttle position sensor were both covered with oil, cleaned them with electrical cleaner and put it back together. Started up and I couldn't smell the fuel anymore. Took a drive and with the transmission tune it ran stronger than ever, at least since I had the Powermax and 58v FICM. Now I'll just drive it for a few days and see how it goes. I'm noticing that the turbo goes through its cycle now and then when idling. Forgot about it doing that. Anyway I'm keeping my fingers crossed and want to thank you all for the help but big thumbs up to Rusty Axlerod for the last bit of advice.
