Hot soak problem
2003 F350, 6.0 totally stock, 40K miles. Starts and runs fine from cold.
Once out on the highway, runs fine for hours until I stop for a pit stop, usually for just a few minutes. After getting back on the road, occasionally when trying to accellerate, the engine farts through the intake, puffs black out the tailpipe when that happens. The scangauge shows anywhere from 6 to 27PSI boost when this happens, does not do it at a definate pressure, always different.
If I back out of the throttle it stops, and this cycle repeats itself for 2 or 3 times then the engine goes back to normal, no farting , accelerates fine and may stay normal for many days and many hot soaks and hot\cold running cycles.
I've pulled the EGR valve, it's clean with very little carbon. Checked for air leaks pre turbo, have found none. Cleaned MAF sensor, all with no change.
There are no DTC's when scanned, truck has 06E17 flash and turbo cycles at idle fine and VGT indication on scangauge shows that the cycling is happening and shows that boost is changing while running.
This is intermittent as hell and I can't figure out what else to check. Turbo and ICP were changed under warranty less than 20K ago by dealer for a low boost condition. Truck does not idle excessively and is used either to pull a load or for highway travel.
Any Ideas?? Thanks
