Axle seal/bearing questions

okay got my trucks oil changed and had the folks trot me out there to point at items that need attention.

one thing that caught my eye and attention...oil on the backing plate of the rear brakes.

figured it was about time...unfortunately the old girl sits more in the driveway than drives since the wife and I commute to save on some gas and such.
So I am looking around and notice that Timken and National have "Axle Repair Bearings" and I am intrigued about these items...I am not sure about my axles having a grove in them but at 138k on the odo I figure it might be worth a shot.

So I come to you good folks...do you have any experience with these items? Good experience? Bad? Indifferent?

Thanks!

Most likely you just need to replace the seals.

I have used those bearings a few times and they work good. Much cheaper than a new axle shaft

it is a combined roller bearing / seal unit. It moves the bearing slightly on the shaft so it wears in a new location ........ same with the seal, its offset. Yes, they are a good idea... you may not need the "fix", but it does not hurt to use them.
