Crooked column

The

column in my SC appears to far to the left at the dash mount to me. Possibly to many years of some big guy pulling himself into the truck.?

I dropped the column from the dash, and it looks like there's another bracket bolted to the dash above, should there be side to side adjustment here cause what I see so far is front to rear slots in the column bracket. I'll get some better pics after work.

I swear I'm not drinking every time I see it... I don't think the pics show it though either.
The steering feels smooth, the tilt works smooth, but when I drive it I could swear that its bent. Maybe I can finds dads spare column and swap it to see if I'm right.

As long as the joint doesn't have any wobble and isnt loose it should be fine.. It definitely wouldn't hurt to compare it to another column if you have access to one

If the column is shifted to one side it should show some sign of damage at the firewall location. Check your rag joint to see if it has an unusual angle, if not it should be okay. Many moons ago I bought 3 chevettes at an auction in Montreal and drove them back to Toronto, sat side saddle in the seat in all 3 of them due to the steering columns being off centered from the factory. Buddy had a pizza store and thought they were the greatest cars on earth. To the point, it's pretty hard to bend a steering column, the steering wheel would bend first.

I'm still 2 posts ahead of you JD, leave that wife of yours alone and get back to posting. waaahaaahaaahaaa.

Is it a tilt column? I've seen these lose a screw on one side and start to lean

Lose enough screws and you'll wind up as tilted, twisted and leaned over as I am. Helluva blast being this way though.

Yeah its a tilt, had all 4 bolts at firewall and both at the dash. I'll tear into it more tomorrow hopefully.

I mean the bolts at the pivot point, they are probably inside the column so it will require a teardown. there is a pretty stout spring used for the tilt action, if one side isn't tight it can push that side further than the other, ie; crooked. worth a look.

Hey now, that sounds like it could be what it looks like to me. I need to put a TSS in there anyways so that gives me a better idea what to look for. Thanks
