'02 F150 Dash cupholder

Hello group, in detailing my new-to-me 150, I cannot figure out how to release my in-dash, spring loaded cupholder, adjacent to the glove box. The spring loaded feature is broken and I need to clean the assembly. Any tips on how to release it? Thanks!

You'll probably have to pry the cupholder out. Once it's out, you can drill a hole in the middle of the spring and cupholder, then put a screw/nut through it to hold it in place. The plastic bosses that were meant to hold the spring in place break off.

Mine is in the same condition. If you push it in, it has to be pried out. I just leave it. It is on my list of things to correct.

Once you get it out, it's actually one of the easier things to correct. Of course, mine is almost never pushed in anymore anyway. The cupholders in the armrest get loose change and phones and wallet kept in them, so the cups all go in the dash.

Thanks to all for the response. What I needed was instruction on how to release the holder assembly from the sliding rails. I actually found a detailed Guide in another forum. There are 2 tabs at the rear of the holder that need to be depressed and the assembly slides out. I fished the spring out of the underdash and after drilling through the broken plastic mounting {rivets}, I pop riveted the spring back on to the assembly. Everything now works.
Now, on to find out why neither the horn nor the cruise control are working!
