the ashtray that is in the dash will not push itself out when i push on it. i guess its supposed to be spring loaded or something, but mine stays in and i have to get my fingers underneath it to get it out. how do i fix this? what do i look for when i pull it all the way out? thanks
It is actually a clip, bent such that it acts like a spring. I don't recall the exact orientation (although pushing in lighty makes the tray want to spring back out, this should help in deciphering orientation). Pull out the tray and you should see the clip lying there. I drilled a small hole in my clip and screwed it to the backside of the tray and it has WORKED FLAWLESSLY ever since.
I actually did this very same thing 2 nights ago. When you get your fingers under there to pry it out, there would be two hooks on the top of it that keep it from flying out the dash. Pop those down and it'll pull right out. Unplug the light from it and find that clip/ spring in your dash. There should be 2 "nubs" from where the spring was secured to the ashtray. Line up the holes in the spring with those nubs and throw a couple of self tapping screws threw the nubs and you should be cool.
