steering problems

i just replaced ps pump and rebuilt gear box on 87 bronco. with engine running i can turn left fine but turning right i hit a hard spot halfway thru the cycle then it eases up towords right lock then turns back left easy. the pump will whine at full left lock but not full right lock. with engine off i hit hard spot in the middle going both directions. it will blow fluid out of resevior going left but not going right when i hit the hard spot. this is all with no pitman arm attached. did i mess up the gear box rebuild or is there an air bubble or something in there?
