turning on its own

turning on its own
so i have no idea whats going on here. seal went on the steering box and i went and put more in the pump after i started it back up, it would turn on its own to the left. i held the steering wheel thought i would be ok but as soon as i got to 35mph i could barely hold it straight to go down the road. so towed it back home, took the cover off scraped off the rtv that the owner before put on, put in a new gasket seal, closed it up put more fluid in and steering stop leak, and it still wants to turn on its own. i tried to crank it from lock to lock to try and get the air out. it fights me to turn right but left it goes on its own. and this is sitting still and idling. anybody got any ideas? thanks
PS, forgot to say it was a 74 bronco...

Jack the front end off the ground and turn lock to lock 20-30 times to make sure all the air is out. They can be hard to get all the air out sometimes. Since it's been apart and sealed with RTV, a small piece of that could be in there messing up things. You could flush it good running the return line into a clean container to save the fluid and check for any trash that might come out.

A bad pump can be bad for a lot of reasons.... Not enough fluid and burned out bearings, bad seals debris could clog it.... Try to do what the
Previous poster said and clear the lines and fluid.... Also make sure the box turns smoothly without the pump running to eliminate a problem there like debris in it or a bad ball or bad worm shaft..... But if the fluid is good and the box turns smoothly....then look at the pump....

A bad pump will not make it turn used to one side. It is an issue inside the gear box. The pump only sends controlled pressure to the gear box. It has nothing to do with turning. I would think the sector shaft is jacked up. Get the manual on how to set your sector shaft. You have to remove steering wheel, and then detach your steering linkage. Then you need a inch pounds tq. wrench on a nut on the steering shaft. Turning it back and forth to measure rolling resistance in the sector. This may be a temporary fix or better but either way the problem is inside the hear box.
