stainless exhaust

I would like to get a whole new exhaust system. headers to tailpipe. I have a 1977 f150 with a 460. I would like a good stainless exhaust and header system with good performance and not a high price tag. Anyone know where to go? would be open a good used system or headers. Also a carb to compliment.

Thanks

Stainless and not a high price should never be used in the same sentence. It aint gonna happen.

Yup! Ain't gonna happen.
I was going to go with stainless on my project. I was using exhaust manifolds, not headers. Just the exhaust pipes and tail pipes and the mufflers were going to run $1200.00. An off the shelf system, identical except in aluminized steel was $270.00.

Here's a tip, if you do go with stainless, avoid systems made with 304 alloy. This stainless is used on a lot of systems because it will polish up and look real pretty, the problem is 304 can't take the continuous heat/cool cycles and will eventually crack. Not really a problem on show cars but definitely a problem with a daily driver. Look for a system that is made from 409 alloy, this has a higher carbon content, it won't polish up and look pretty, It'll always be a dull gray but it can take the heat/cool cycles. Also, a minimum 16 gage tube wall, don't go thinner.

Even my simple cummins exhaust from the down pipe back in 409 cost me close to $400.00 in materials. I did all the welding, cutting and fitting myself.

I'd say with. 2" to 2.5" system your looking at well over $1000.00 just in materials alone.
