hi everyone i have been working on the body of my sons 1977 f150 and within the next month me and him will be priming it i have a spray gun and a large compressor so i believe i have everything just wanted to know what you guys recommend using as a good primer
I second the epoxy over clean steel. Its the best. There are other choices if dealing with non structural rust.
When spraying, keeping the water out of the air is important for a good job. Approaches are 1) a long run of metal pipe (eg 100') to cool the air and a water separator at the end 2) A refrigerated chiller to cool the air and drop the water 3) A desiccant dryer.
I went with the desiccant dryer as I did not have a long pipe run and did not want to buy a chiller... after I had water problems on a project.
Paint materials should be treated as a system. Meaning, the primer surfacer, sealer, color coat, and clear should come from the same manufacturer... talk to your jobber or review Summit's paint systems for info.
