air intake!

Hello everyone i would like to get a new air intake system now there are literately 100 different opinions on this but i found a system i kinda like and was wondering if anyone on here has tried it or knows someone who has.

Now before anyone gets there boxers in a bunch here i am going to make a guard for the two filters For two reasons 1 splash guard is key my truck dose see mud once in a while so i gotta keep the filters dry as well try and 2 separate the heat from the motor directly into the filters.

lets here what you think

Keep the factory airbox, it flows plenty of air and it already provides insulation from engine heat. For a little extra cool air swap in the intake tube from a 4.9L or 7.5L equipped truck. It draws in air from behind the grille instead of the snorkel that is sandwiched between the hood and radiator support on the 5.0L & 5.8L trucks.

Like Randy said, get the intake tube from the I6 or 460. It draws in REAL cold air and not hot air from under the hood.

Save your money on one of those and buy a set of headers and better flowing exhaust if you don't already have them. Or a set of 3.55 gears. You'll see REAL performance gains.

Yes.. and they are all literally a 100% waste of your money. Your truck needs gears badly(I'd suggest 4.10s) that is the single best thing you could do, and then a full exhaust system with headers.

I have a 94 F150 with the 5.8. I insulated my air filter box and the intake snorkels. I don't think I gained anything on the highway as the air doesn't stay in the box and the snorkels long enough to absorb a lot of engine compartment heat. However, in the city I noticed a slight improvement ( 1/2 mpg or so) city driving. Having said that, I know my overall mpg for the past year was going to be off as I was fighting a persistent miss so I used more fuel than I should have. I guess I'll find out this year as I've got the miss figured out.

I think the biggest thing I noticed is the surprise on the face of everyone who sees inside my hood. It looks pretty cool for not a lot of money.

Not trying to hijack, but the PO of my truck installed a CAI from K&N. The intake ends up behind the coolant reservoir and I assume it brings in only hot air. I want to install my air intake back to original. Does anyone have the part #'s and any idea where I can pick one up? Anyone have a diagram also? Also, does anyone have a pic of the air horns that need to be shortened? I have a 460/7.5 Thanks for any help/suggestions.
