Coolant gauge?

Well I did a quick search [to no avail] and was wondering why the coolant gauge doesn't move but right above the line on the cool side, the heater works great, but my question is, is the sender for the gauge bad? or what else could it be, my main concern is that there is a small puddle of coolant right next to my over flow reservoir (like the size of two quarters next to each other) after I make a trip up to Buda (45 mins away from me @ 70 mph) she's my sig truck, 95 ex. Cab, straight six 2wd M5od, if y'all need any info let me know
TIA

One way to figure out which isn't working is to unplug the wire from the top of the sender, and then ground it somewhere on the engine or firewall.

Then while you are doing that have someone inside the cab and watch the gauge. If the needle goes up when you ground it, then it's probably the sender, if it doesn't move then it could be the gauge.

I took a quick look just now and couldn't find it, if some one knows the exact location and could tell me that'd be great!

The key should be in the "ON" position.

I don't have a 4.9L so I can't say for sure, but hopefully this pic will help with the location of the sender.
